Sunday, May 4th, jousters from many realms and lands converged for a Grand Joust to "KNOCK CANCER FROM THE LIST"
It was the culmination of two months of 8 jousts in various medieval Realms to qualify 2 jousters from each event to create a field of 22 contestants who would compete for the title 'Champion' in the GRAND JOUST.
The event which drew 41 people to the Ravenhearts Realm was the brainchild of Princess Ricci Juliesse. In it's second year, and together with the help of the SLTA, the jousts were organized to host jousts in Nevermore, BloodDragon, HighgGarden, Celtic Isle, Darkwolfe and charity team jousts at the Double Dragon Academy. The event raised close to $10, 000L, for a total of $36,000. Headmaster and SLTA staffer Forester Lowenhart was the joust official. And Nyza Stillwater entertained all with a dazzling fireworks display.
Winners (pictured) were Belladonna Madrake (1st), Lilly9100 (2nd) and Nephilim Ventris (3rd). Gifts of weapons from Fafnir Forge, lances from Kish Enterprises, and Jewery from the White Armory, were awarded the top 3 finishers. And everyone came away with T-shirts celebrating the event. This from the website for R4L's history:
"Almost 30 years ago, in May 1985, Dr. Cody Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track university track in Tacoma for more than 83 miles. Throughout the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk 30 minutes with him. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer. This grew into The American Cancer Society Relay For Life, a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease."
It shows everyone can make a difference. Mary Teodosio (Teo) who heads up the group "Unmasking A Cure" of which the Joust was a key event, has raised over $8000 USD in their efforts for R4L which spans over 4-5 months of events in SL. The night ended with a masquerade ball and auction for all those involved in the fight against cancer. GO JOUSTERS!
