On October 2024, the DDA celebrated it’s 15th year in Second Life with an Open House at its Hypatia Campus on Dragon Quest

All were invited to this no host event, for cake, reuniting with others and the raising of a glass to a slideshow honoring past graduates.

A YEAR OF TRANSITION

It marked 2024 as a year of transition for the DOUBLE DRAGON ACADEMY (DDA). In January 2024 the DDA ended its 12-year residency in Kismet Sims after the sims closure, followed by brief relocation to Dragons Landing (also closed) before its move in August 2024 to its current location in URHE Dragon Quest.

It also marked a changing of the guard as Headmaster Forester stepped away from day-to-day operations after 15 years of service at the DDA.  Those duties now fall to Fafnir Fang, the DDA’s current Director of Administration, weapons Smyth and co-founder of the Academy.

DDA Director Fafnir Fang

A SHORT HISTORY

Checking the director’s profile tells the tale of how that partnership came to be, but in brief, the two collaborated on a new campus for the DDA when it began to expand in SL. The first installation of the building that has come to define the current DDA was in UHRE. So in truth, the Academy has come full circle.

A LEGENDARY LAND

If you haven’t yet visited the DDA Hypatia campus in URHE , it is located in one the most fabled archipelagos in SL, and home to such medieval fantasy realms as TAHARU and the hobbits of TWEENWATER.

HYPATIA is the most ancient Realm of its lands and birthplace of the Tantua of Uhre, the much respected and beloved Patron dragon of those lands. It It has also been the home realm of DDA Director, Fafnir Fang, who serves as an ancient dragon of UHRE.

Here are a few pictures in addition to the one shown above of the Academy on the rocky seashore of Hypatia. To visit, an LM can be found in the profile of DDA Director Fafnir Fang or Headmaster Forester.

ENCHANTED GARDEN

Located behind the Academy is a place of reflection and solitude to honor mother nature or communion with the sprites and spirits that inhabit the land.

HAUNTED GRAVEYARD

To the right of the Academy is an eerie, fog shrouded stroll to a secret mausoleum.  It is the creation of an ancient and legendary dragon of UHRE, General Drak, whose contribution to the spirit of the lands have provided guidance and direction for many who have lived there.

ELK HERD

On the left of the Academy, is a herd of stately creatures grazing below, often heard trumpeting their call as if to herald your arrival to the mountain looming above them; the mountain retreat of the Tantua of Uhre.

LANDS OF DISCOVERY

Beautifully landscaped by the sim’s curator, the gardens and pathways link to the adjoining lands of UHRE to explore for new experiences, friendships and roleplay opportunities.

OUR GRADUATES

The slideshow featured in the arena paid homage to all who have graduated from its programs and gone on to successful careers and endeavors success in Second Life.

It’s a legacy no other medieval institution in SL can match, even if often imitated, but never duplicated; it remains the first of its kind in SL, and owes a debt of gratitude for the support all have shown to help it stand the test of time.

ACADEMY SERVICES

The DDA Hypatia campus maintains all the features and facilities cadets of any race or affiliation have come to know for advancing through the certification levels of Gold, Silver, Iron and Steel.

In closing, this year’s DDA anniversary primarily celebrated the cadets and students who have participated in its programs.  Their names are well known, and etched on the wall plaques hanging in the foyer of the Academy Admin center and online at:
