A public vote called for by the United Jousters to decide a points system for tabulating joust results was recently overturned.

On March 4, 2014 The United Jousters called for vote by the general jousting community to choose the system of preference for tabulating points for joust competitions on the UJ website. UJ Notice:

UJ WEEKLY UPDATES - 3/4/2014

-----------------------------------------

1. VOTE NOW!

The UJ Commitee reached a 2-2 vote in trying to decide Points System A or Points System B to be used to rank UJ-affiliated jousts. As such, a motion was presented and passed 4-0 to allow the general membership to vote on the points system of their preference. Members have until Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. to cast their vote.

A voting kiosk created by Captain Blinker was placed on Celtic Isle and the public was invited to vote between two systems. One proposed by UJ leader Captain Blinker (System A) which was in use on Celtic Isle jousts and En-Guard tournaments, and another by chairperson Nyza Stillwater (System B).

VOTE OVERTURNED

The majority of votes were cast for the point system (B) proposed by chairperson Nyza Stillwater and on March 12th the UJ Committee voted 5-3 to approve Points System (B).

Capt Blinker made a motion to toss the vote out and call for a revote. Although a public vote had been originally called for, it was argued non-UJ members had affected the results.

In response, the Committee voted 8-0 to toss out the vote citing the issue as "anyone having the ability to vote, thereby affecting the outcome.'

Plans for a revote were made that would limit the voting to UJ members only, as soon as changes to the vote board was updated by Capt Blinker. This would exclude votes by non UJ members in the jousting community who may have an interest in the points system used at jousts they attended.

The re-vote was announced by the UJ March 19, 2014 in group notice:

UJ WEEKLY UPDATES - 3/19/2014

-----------------------------------------

1. RE-VOTE FORTHCOMING

Recently the results of the Points System Vote was tossed out by the Committee, 8-0, due to problems associated with anyone having the ability to vote, thereby affecting the outcome. Preparation for a re-vote is in progress. When the re-voting is ready to go, a public notice will be sent out. Voting will then commence 7 days (one week) from the point of votes starting, unless the Committee decides otherwise. Please stay tuned and keep an eye on notices posted in the main group.

RE-VOTE REJECTED

In the UJ meeting of March 22, 2014, Capt. Blinker asked the Committee to vote for System (A) without a revote so it could move on to more critical business. A proposal for the re-vote was rejected by the UJ Committee, and after a short recap of Point system (A & B), Captain Blinker's system (A) was approved for use by a vote of 7-2 by the ruling committee members.
