Sharing of point standings leads to lively debate

United Jousters (UJ) disscussed which jousts should be included in their point standings in a number of recent meetings and announcements.

UJ MEETING MARCH 12, 2014.

According to an attendee, the UJ gave its position over what place SLTA jousts would have in the UJ point standings according to this comment by UJ Leader Capt. Blinker:

"Nowhere!"

This was echoed by fellow UJ Committee members who began to disparage the SLTA until a member of both UJ and SLTA groups protested.

"Im sorry but I am a bit insulted on the gaging and such about STLA, I mean I have nothing against them and I hold intersims, so do you have issue with me as well?"

Accordingly, Capt. Blinker responded:

"All I will say is that I and others have various issues with DDA/SLTA, but they are with them no others, I hold nothing against those that associate with them but I will not attend any DDA/SLTA sponsered events, so I have no problem with you..."

Chairperson Nyza Stillwater, reportedly accused the SLTA of stealing UJ and Celtic rankings, and suggested members speak in private with the protester after the meeting about the SLTA.

Editors Note: According to the Reporting Policy posted on the Jousting League website, "Any participant has a right to report their results to the website" and often reported by those who serve on the both councils of the UJ and SLTA.

MARCH 13 GROUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Capt. Blinker adjusted his position the next day on what SLTA points would be included in UJ points stadnings, following the protests by group members who also host SLTA Intersims in their Realm.

Many felt they are being placed in the middle of a grudge match the UJ is waging against the SLTA and do not get credit in UJ standings for all the jousts they hold.

To address those concerns, Capt Blinker announced an ammended position in UJ group chat March 13, 2014.

*** IMPORTANT ***

Committee Members:

I have been giving a lot of thought to what notices we allow to be sent in the group.

Going by the original intent/charter of the group I propose the following:

1. We leave the premissions to send notices as they are now only Team Captains, Staff,

Officials, Officers, Committee Member's, and Affiliates can send notices.

2. If a team captain has a joust sponsored by another group (i.e. SLTA intersim) that

team captain may put a notice in the UJ group.

3. In addition the results of the joust can be included in the UJ records and the points

will be included in the points system.

This follows the original charter of the group and I would like unanimous approval

of this at best or a majority agreement at the least.

In addition this is already part of our charter so I do not expect any objections!

The intent of this notice is that I don't want to hear any drama if one of our captains

wants to send a notice.

-Capt

The adjustment allows for Team Captains of the UJ (hosting realms) to post any joust in their Realm. SLTA jousts hosted by non-UJ members remain excluded.

Not all on the UJ Committee recieved the news well, which lead to this exchange in group chat.

Valkyrie Jinx: why are we allowing sltas scores into uj.?

Tom (tom.avora): screw slta and the intersim...anyone who runs a intersim let them put there results in the slta point sys keep out of UJ

Capt Blinker: Let me be a little clearer about this....

Tom (tom.avora): if its intersim it should score at slta I don't care if UJ member runs it or not

Capt Blinker: If one of our members has a joust the results can be included in our data, even if the joust is sponsored by someone else...If we dont allow other jousts to be included then we may as well eliminate any joust sponsered by a group such as the RFL (Relat For Life cancer charities)....If the other groups want to have there own scoring method that is not a problem with us!!!... So, lets be fair and reasonable about this, if you don't like another group fine, don't associate with them, but don't hold it against yuor/our friends!!!

Bandor Tyrell (bandor.beningborough): if the public grudge, bashing and vindictive behavior toward slta does not stop, I cannot be associated with this group. it is not why I joined and unprofessional. if that is why this group exists and how it operates, then I am very disappointed and will withdraw.

UPDATE: UJ MEETING OF APRIL 4, 2014

Continued debate over including points from tournaments outside the UJ group surfaced again in a meeting Bella Denver attended. She shared the following conversation from that public meeting and additional background why results UJ jousts such as Celtic rankings find their way in the Jousting League website standing.

Capt Blinker: It is my personal feeling that UJ points should only be earned at UJ events, otherwise, why even do a points system in the first place? My vote is against this.

Valkyrie ℂatherine (valkyrie.jinx): keepit in uj

Nyza Stillwater: As we have a rep from SLTA here, I would like to hear her thoughts on the matter.

Bella Denver smiles and waits a turn then

Valkyrie ℂatherine (valkyrie.jinx): disagree with pts outside the uj

Capt Blinker: wait you turn Valkyrie :)

Bandor Tyrell (bandor.beningborough): I have mixed opinions. This body is not for the tracking of every joust anyone might ever be in. Nascar doesn't track points for some local dirt track race. However, if the person jousting is a member of the UJ, maybe their points should count. Howeover again, as a body, we ensure a certain level of jousting and our points mean something. If an unregulated joust were to count, it could be an unfair comparison...So, for those reasons, and absolutely nothing to do with the SLTA, I would oppose inclusion of non UJ scores. I'm sorry to my SLTA friends.

Arya (siali.rexie): jousting is jousting and some cannot make all the jousts and some can only make a few, shall we start making a rule if so many arent online we arent allowed to joust then? points dont hurt anyone take belladonna as example she only jousts on weekends and shes up there, our points are our points. if you want to be united then be united with all jousts, thats my opinion anyway, like my charity joust on autism captain added those to the UJ but it was not a UJ event

Rena O'Kelly (wickedfox73): I oppose blocking...I am for the sharing of scores.

Feid McGuire (juejuie): I would like to yeld to Bella so that I may respond to her comments...

Bella Denver:

We don't care if you wish to include points from SLTA in your system or not, but it shouldn’t really be up to us. Our service is to the jousters, not our organization, It is they who do the work, make the effort, fill our lists.

The SLTA position is that jousters own the points they earn, not the SLTA (or DDA). Therefore, I feel they should not be caught in the middle of differences between groups. All jousters see are the events available to them in their schedule.

Most don’t care about political rivalries and in the long run, will be angered by them. We should make it easy for jousters to joust without boundaries. Be a service to them not our own exclusive memberships.

If each has different methods of calculation, that is easy to deal with, but we should honor a first, second, third, fourth place wherever they are won.

That is why, regardless of where you joust, the SLTA (and DDA) will honor your accomplishments in our point system, and permit jousters to use SLTA/DDA jousts to accumulate points in any other system.

The Jousting League site already has all jousts in SL ready to tabulate and no one can prevent monitors or individual jousters from posting the results to another system.

So regardless of your decision here, points will be tallied.

Thankyou for allowing my input
